This weekend, beginning at 8 am tomorrow (Saturday) morning, I will be partially participating in Dewey’s 24-hour-readathon. I look forward to this readathon every spring and fall, and even though I’ll be traveling to Delaware this weekend, I’m still planning on getting plenty read.
First up, I need to finish Wings: A Novel of World War II Flygirls by Karl Friedrich before I review it on Monday–yikes! But it’s a fascinating topic, and the drive home is a long one, so I should have no problem polishing it off.
Last weekend, as we drove to and from Lynchburg, I became entranced by Jennifer Egan’s A Visit from the Goon Squad. It’s the kind of book that I simultaneously want to gobble up but also savor for as long as possible; we’ll see if it lasts the weekend!
I’ve been listening to Curtis Sittenfeld’s American Wife on audiobook, and I’ve been enjoying it quite a bit. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to listen to it much this weekend, but maybe I’ll sneak away for a bit–maybe I’ll help Ruth with the Halloween party preparations. Doing dishes is never so fun as when you have a good audiobook!
This is a short list, especially compared to last year’s accomplishments, but I’m looking forward to readathon nonetheless. Since I will be away from my computer, I won’t be posting updates here, but follow me on Twitter/Facebook for live updates there!
